On the 7th anniversary of our creation, @afterthefireusa is taking time to show what we've been doing, where we are today, and what we care about most: disaster survivors and leaders.
Our Story
In October 2017, a massive wildfire devastated the California North Bay Counties of Sonoma, Napa, Lake and Mendocino. Our CEO, Jennifer Gray Thompson, along with so many others, lived through the disaster and wanted to help. People came together to listen, learn and do what they could to contribute to the recovery of the area.
Local leaders and organizations from every sector rallied to help the region recover. In response to these needs, Rebuild NorthBay Foundation (RNBF) was established by a group of determined individuals to provide a 360-degree view and support of our region's recovery. In 2020/21 we formally changed our mission, vision and name to After the Fire USA.

We Deploy
No community should have to invent wildfire recovery. We support locally led and designed recoveries. We start with listening and asking, "What do you need, and how can we help?"
We Connect
We built a robust network of leaders, NGOs, civil servants, and private sector businesses to connect with wildfire communities. We host an annual Wildfire Leadership Summit that connects and informs our network.
We Advocate
The Era of Megafire wrecks mass devastation yearly. We advocate federally with wildfire survivors to enact relevant and compassionate legislation for fair recovery.
We Educate
We democratize information, connect changemakers, and amplify great ideas via content creation, public speaking, annual convening, and 1:1 consulting. Check out our 300 videos!
We Innovate
The next 50 years will be devoted to fostering multi-peril resilience in our built environment + social structures. We embrace great ideas from passionate people. We must reimagine resiliency and collaborate daily.
